Commuters heading into Charleston on I-26 eastbound faced long delays Thursday morning after two separate crashes blocked lanes along the busy interstate.
According to First Alert Traffic Anchor Abbey Walton, the usual commute from Summerville to downtown Charleston stretched to about 90 minutes—more than double the normal travel time.
Where the Crashes Happened
One of the crashes occurred just before mile marker 215, near Dorchester Road, where lanes were partially blocked. The second crash also contributed to backups along the eastbound side of I-26.
Traffic Advisory for Drivers
Authorities are urging drivers to:
Seek alternate routes to avoid the congestion
Expect significant delays if traveling toward Charleston during peak times
Use caution around crash scenes as emergency crews continue working
With lanes blocked and heavy morning traffic, I-26 eastbound became a major headache for commuters traveling into Charleston. Drivers are encouraged to stay updated on live traffic reports, plan ahead, and consider alternate roads until the area clears.
