Detectives from the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department are investigating a homicide that occurred Friday morning at a hotel in southwest Charlotte.

Tiara Love Tori Jackson, 37, was shot to death at the Woodspring Suites on Deboer Avenue, off West Arrowood Road, around 9:20 a.m.

Channel 9 arrived at the scene, where crime scene tape was blocking the entrance and wrapping around part of the parking lot.

According to police, a disturbance or dispute occurred on one of the hotel’s floors prior to the shooting.

One of the dozens of hotel guests spoke with Channel 9’s Tina Terry.

“When I came back (from the store), I saw the guy coming out the door,” said the witness, who asked not to be identified. “He carried a purse. He tripped and fell into the rocks very hard, and money flew everywhere.”

The money was covered in blood, and the witness noticed drugs in the bag. He knew something was wrong.

“I was doing something wrong. “Somebody was robbed or killed,” he stated.

Terry spoke with a couple who had planned to stay at the hotel on Friday and said they were making new arrangements.

“Absolutely scary,” said customer Tim Fields. “The times we live in these days.”

On Friday evening, CMPD announced that Darris Dee Marshall, 33, had been identified as the suspect in this case.

According to police, Marshall was discovered in a different location shortly after the shooting with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound.

He was taken to a local hospital for treatment before being charged with murder and felony possession of a firearm.
