Cold weather shelters are opening across the Upstate of South Carolina and western North Carolina ahead of a potential winter storm this weekend. These facilities provide essential refuge during extreme cold, with specific hours and eligibility noted at each site.
Spartanburg Shelters
- Extreme Cold Weather Shelter at 701 Saxon Avenue operates from 7 PM to 10 PM.
- Spartanburg Rescue Mission at 189 North Forest Street is open 7 AM to 2 PM.
Greenville County Shelters
- Shepherd’s Gate (women and children only) at 11 Regency Hill Drive runs 7 AM to 2 PM.
- Greenville Rescue Mission (men only) at 575 West Washington Street is available 7 AM to 2 PM.
Other Locations
- Cherokee County Rescue Mission at 227 Henderson St., Gaffney, open 7 AM to 2 PM.
- Asheville: Men’s Winter Safe Shelter at 91 New Leicester Highway (6 PM-8 PM); Women’s at 27 Balm Grove Avenue (6 PM-8 PM); Transformation Village (women and children) at 30 Olin Haven Way (6 PM-7 AM).
