HANAHAN, S.C. — A significant pipe break at the Hanahan Water Treatment Plant has resulted in the loss of roughly 10 million gallons of untreated water every day. However, Charleston Water System (CWS) has announced that the installation of a valve to repair the break is expected to be completed by Friday.
Incident Details
The pipe break occurred on Wednesday morning, with CWS reporting no noticeable impacts to customers so far. Despite the large volume of untreated water being lost, the utility company has assured residents that there have been no disruptions to service.
According to officials, the break was caused by an internal operational error. Repair efforts are progressing, and if all goes according to plan, normal operations at the plant could resume by next week.
Ongoing Monitoring and Repairs
CWS is continuing to monitor the situation closely until the repairs are fully completed. The utility company emphasized that it is taking all necessary steps to restore the plant to full functionality as quickly as possible.
