Aiken County man faces lottery fraud charges after reportedly attempting to pass stolen tickets at the same business four times

An Aiken County man, 37‑year‑old John Benjamin Martin, has been arrested on lottery fraud charges after allegedly trying to cash stolen lottery tickets at the same store four times in late 2025. The incidents occurred at the Mos Convenience Store at 1214 Sand Bar Ferry Road.

What he’s accused of

State warrants say Martin passed stolen (or counterfeit) lottery tickets on November 29 and December 10, 2025, and tried to redeem them again on December 19, 2025. On November 29, he allegedly attempted to cash tickets twice, minutes apart; on December 19 he reportedly did the same thing again, about an hour after his first attempt that day.

Charges and status

Martin faces four counts of “intent to defraud, counterfeit game tickets”, which are lottery‑specific fraud charges under South Carolina law. He was arrested and booked into the Aiken County jail, and the Second Circuit Solicitor’s Office will prosecute his case in court.
