DORCHESTER COUNTY, S.C. — Cody Thomas Meree, a 33-year-old man from Summerville, was arrested on Wednesday after allegedly threatening to “blow up” the First Circuit Solicitor’s Office last month. The threat was made following a phone call with office staff on June 25, during which he was informed that his request to have his criminal record expunged could not be processed.
The Threat and Precautionary Measures
According to the Dorchester County Sheriff’s Office, Meree became upset after learning his request would not be completed. Following the phone call, he allegedly threatened to bomb the office. In response, the Solicitor’s Office decided to close for the day, and all employees were sent home as a precautionary measure.
Investigation and Arrest
Meree was identified as the suspect after a preliminary investigation. On July 2, deputies attempted to locate him at his Summerville residence, but he was not there at the time. However, they noticed a truck with a “For Sale” sign parked in his front yard. Detectives made contact with Meree by phone, and he returned home to meet a prospective buyer, unaware that Dorchester County Sheriff’s Deputies were waiting for him.
Charges and Bond
Meree was taken into custody and charged with:
Making Bomb Threats
Possession of a Weapon by Persons Unlawful
As of Thursday morning, Meree was being held at the L.C. Knight Detention Center on a $50,000 personal recognizance bond.
This incident highlights the serious consequences of making threats to public offices, and authorities continue to investigate. Meree’s arrest serves as a reminder that threats of violence, even in frustration, can lead to significant legal repercussions.
