Charleston, South Carolina — According to Charleston Police, a person died after being hit by a car in a work zone on I-526 near the Westmoreland Bridge late Monday night.
According to police, a pickup truck was going east on the freeway soon before 10 p.m. when it struck a worker’s hand and then another worker. The second worker had terrible injuries and was transported to a local hospital, where they died.
The Charleston County Coroner’s Office has yet to identify the victim.
According to police, the pickup truck driver immediately pulled over and waited for authorities to come. There have been no charges filed.
The route was stopped for many hours as law enforcement was on the scene.
