COLLETON COUNTY, S.C. — Emergency crews from Colleton County Fire-Rescue and Hampton County EMS responded to a serious crash on Interstate 95 near the Colleton County line on March 22, 2026.

Incident Details

A car left the highway, went down an embankment, and struck a tree in the Salkehatchie Swamp, trapping the driver inside the vehicle. Firefighters quickly used rescue tools to extricate the adult motorist from the wreckage.

The injured driver was then airlifted by CARE Flight to HCA Memorial Hospital in Savannah, GA, for treatment.

Traffic Disruptions

As a result of the crash, both northbound lanes of I-95 were blocked for about 30 minutes during the response, causing some delays for travelers.

Investigation

The Yemassee Police Department is currently investigating the cause of the accident.
