NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. — A 45-year-old North Charleston man has been arrested after authorities claim he verbally threatened a state employee during a job fair earlier this year. Ricardo Darnell Jones was arrested on August 20 and faces multiple charges, including threatening the life of a public official and two counts of third-degree assault and battery.

The incident occurred on April 17 at the SC Works Center on Hanahan Road, according to affidavits from the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED). Jones allegedly became upset when asked to sign in at the job fair and threatened a South Carolina Department of Employment and Workforce employee. When asked to leave the premises, Jones reportedly entered the building’s lobby, where he dropped his phone. When the victim tried to pick up the phone, Jones is accused of pushing the victim into a wall, causing them to hit their head.

Jones allegedly shouted at the victim, telling them that if he had his gun, the situation would have been different. Parts of the altercation were captured by the building’s surveillance system.

Jones was booked into the Al Cannon Detention Center at around 12:50 p.m. on Wednesday and later released the same evening on a personal recognizance bond of approximately $12,000, according to jail records.
