Marlboro County, South Carolina — There were no injuries reported, but a man is facing charges in Marlboro County after the sheriff’s office claims he fired rounds into a school Monday night.

Jerry Booth Jr. was charged with shooting a firearm into a building, unauthorized carrying of a firearm, and malicious damage to property worth $10,000 or more.

According to the sheriff’s office, deputies arrived to Academy Road in the Bennettsville neighborhood after receiving a complaint of a possibly armed person acting abnormally. When they arrived, they discovered Booth showing “paranoid and disoriented behavior.” Booth had blood on both himself and his rifle.

Further inquiry and the discovery of Booth’s vehicle led investigators to Marlboro Academy, where physical evidence, such as gunshot casings and shattered school windows, showed that rounds were fired into the building.

According to the sheriff’s office, surveillance footage captured Booth firing his rifle toward the structure. The damage to the school and a vehicle at the scene was estimated to be over $12,000.
