Marty Coward, 55, from Johnsonville, faces murder charges for fatally shooting his wife, Lori Coward, 54, in a failed murder-suicide on DuPont Drive near East Palmetto Street in Florence County. Deputies found Lori dead from a head gunshot wound inside a vehicle at a property they managed together. Marty shot himself, was hospitalized, released, and now also faces charges for possessing a weapon during a violent crime and filing a false police report after claiming a bicyclist shot her.
Legal Proceedings
Florence County Magistrate Jerry F. Rivers denied bond on all charges during a Tuesday hearing at the Law Enforcement Complex. Coward remains without bond at the Florence County Detention Center, represented by attorney D. Craig Brown. Lori’s autopsy is scheduled at the Medical University of South Carolina, with Coroner Keith von Lutcken overseeing.
