A man has been arrested following a hotel shooting in Florence County.

Florence County, South Carolina – A Florence man was detained after a verbal altercation resulted in one person being shot at The Baymont Hotel in Florence, according to the Florence County Sheriff’s Office.

Bobby Eric Spates, 34, was charged with attempted murder, possessing a firearm when convicted of a violent offense, possessing a weapon during a violent crime, and intimidating court officials, jurors, or witnesses.

At 9:05 p.m. on October 1, deputies responded to the hotel on W. Lucas Street, where Spates had shot the victim. It was then discovered that not long after the shooting, Spates threatened the victim and told them not to press criminal charges.

He is being held at the Florence County Detention Center without bond.
