A serious criminal case in South Carolina has taken a new turn, as authorities arrested a man already out on bond for a previous murder investigation. The case involves multiple incidents and has raised concerns about repeat violent offences.

Suspect Arrested in Fatal Shooting Case

According to the Columbia Police Department, 23-year-old Xavier Barnes has been arrested in connection with a fatal shooting. Authorities say he is accused of killing an acquaintance and leaving the body in Orangeburg County.

The arrest was carried out with the help of the Richland County Sheriff’s Department and the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division on March 26.

Charges and Custody Details

Barnes is currently being held at the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center. He faces serious charges, including murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime.

Authorities have not yet released full details about the incident in Orangeburg County, but the charges indicate a violent and intentional act.

Connection to Another Shooting

Investigators also linked Barnes to another shooting case. He is accused of shooting 29-year-old Maurice “Mo” Green at Columbia College. This connection adds to the seriousness of the case and suggests a pattern of violent behaviour.

Previous Murder Case and Bond Concerns

At the time of his arrest, Barnes was already out on bond related to a 2019 murder investigation in Beaufort County. This has raised concerns among authorities about how such cases are handled.

The Columbia Police Department has been in contact with the Fourteenth Circuit Solicitor’s Office to request a bond revocation. This means officials are pushing to ensure he remains in custody moving forward.

Ongoing Investigation

The investigation is still active, and authorities are continuing to gather evidence and build their case. With multiple agencies involved, officials are working to ensure all aspects of the case are fully examined.
