A home away from home: The Everyday Hero

Big things are happening at the Ronald McDonald House of Charleston, and the good news keeps coming! The charity, which has long been a beacon of hope for families in need of accommodation while their children receive medical care, is officially expanding to provide even more rooms for families. This expansion will make a significant difference for the countless families who rely on the house as a place to stay during difficult times.

A Family’s Story: Casey Griffith’s Journey

Casey Griffith, a Florence resident, understands firsthand the importance of the Ronald McDonald House. He and his family spent over two months in Charleston when their son, Tate, was born prematurely. During this challenging time, the Griffith family was able to secure a room at the Ronald McDonald House, which allowed them to focus completely on their child’s well-being.

Griffith recalls how the house became a home away from home during that time. “It was a place of comfort and support when we needed it the most,” he shared. Now, years later, Griffith is back in Charleston, participating in the charity’s annual Dr. Pepper Charity Golf Classic, a tournament that has raised over $5 million for the Ronald McDonald House.

Expansion Plans to Serve More Families

The good news continues as the Ronald McDonald House of Charleston embarks on a major expansion. The new addition will be built in the parking lot of the current location, thanks to a generous donation of property from MUSC (Medical University of South Carolina). This expansion will include 70 new rooms, significantly increasing the number of families the house can accommodate.

The additional rooms will ensure that even more families can have a place to stay while their children receive the treatment they need at nearby hospitals.

How You Can Help

To make this expansion a reality, the Ronald McDonald House of Charleston is still working towards its fundraising goal of $25 million. There are several ways for the community to get involved, including opportunities for naming rights—like naming a room or dining area. Your contribution can make a direct impact on the lives of families who are going through difficult times.
