Johnny Fletcher Jr. recently pleaded guilty to the murder of Nicholas Bonepart in Columbia, South Carolina. He received a 40-year sentence in the state Department of Corrections.
Case Details
The incident occurred on August 5, 2023, when Columbia Police responded to a shots-fired call on Waverly Street. Officers found 32-year-old Bonepart unresponsive in his vehicle’s driver’s seat, having been shot at least five times; EMS pronounced him dead at the scene.
Crime Circumstances
Witnesses reported that Fletcher attempted to rob Bonepart by demanding he empty his pockets during what police described as a narcotics-related transaction. When Bonepart tried to drive away, Fletcher fired into the car.
Sentencing
Fletcher, aged 45 at the time of his 2023 arrest, pleaded guilty on February 10, 2026, before Judge Christopher D. Taylor. Assistant Solicitor Samuel McGlothin of the Fifth Judicial Circuit Solicitor’s Office led the prosecution.
