A bloody victim was recovered after she was attacked with a weapon, according to the South Carolina sheriff.

A woman was left bloodied after being struck in the head with a weapon during an assault Wednesday afternoon in Columbia, according to the Richland County Sheriff’s Department.

Deputies responded around 5 p.m. to the 500 block of Spindrift Lane, located near Garners Ferry Road. When they arrived, they found the victim suffering from a head laceration, with blood visible on her clothing. Deputies provided medical assistance until EMS transported her to a local hospital. Authorities have not released an update on her condition.

Investigators said the incident began after an argument in which someone allegedly took the victim’s purse. The woman reportedly followed the individual in an attempt to retrieve it. That’s when she was assaulted.

Officials have not disclosed what type of weapon was used or whether the victim and suspect knew each other. No arrests have been announced, and the investigation remains ongoing.
