A new housing project is taking shape in Berkeley County as construction begins on a 114-unit townhome community in Nexton. The development reflects the area’s rapid growth and increasing demand for modern housing options near Charleston.
New Townhome Project in Nexton
The project, called Nexton Townhomes, is being developed by Woodfield Development along with PGIM. It is an extension of The Radler, a nearby apartment community completed in 2024.
This marks Woodfield’s 20th residential project in the Charleston region. Over the past 20 years, the company has developed more than 4,600 housing units, with total investments exceeding $1.2 billion.
Meeting Growing Housing Demand
Nexton is located along the busy Interstate 26 corridor, an area that has seen steady population growth in recent years. As more people move into the region, the need for quality housing has increased.
The new townhomes aim to meet this demand by offering rental housing options in a well-planned community. Homes will include two to four bedrooms, with sizes ranging from about 1,700 to 2,400 square feet. Construction is expected to be completed by late 2027.
Modern Features and Amenities
The townhomes are designed with comfort and convenience in mind. According to developers, units will include modern features such as quartz countertops, stainless steel appliances, and spacious walk-in closets. Some homes will also offer private yards.
Residents will also have access to shared amenities at The Radler, including a swimming pool, fitness centre, coworking spaces, and outdoor recreational areas. These features are aimed at providing a balanced lifestyle for families and working professionals.
Part of a Larger Planned Community
Nexton itself is a large, master-planned development spread across 4,500 acres. It combines residential areas with retail, office spaces, parks, and walking trails. The community is located about 25 miles northwest of Charleston, making it a convenient option for people working in nearby areas.
It is also close to major employers like Joint Base Charleston and Boeing, which adds to its appeal for residents.
Continued Growth in Berkeley County
The project is being financed by Pinnacle Bank, with Center Park Group serving as the general contractor. Developers say this project is part of a larger trend of growth in Berkeley County, where new housing developments are expanding quickly.
However, with this growth also come challenges such as infrastructure needs, traffic management, and housing affordability—issues that local leaders continue to discuss.
