Spartanburg residents have multiple opportunities to get involved in community clean-up activities throughout 2025, coordinated by local organizations, the county, and the conservation community.
Countywide Community Clean-Up Events
Spartanburg County hosts large-scale Community Clean-Up events every spring and fall, with the most recent held September 26–27, 2025, at 199 Gowens Road. Volunteers of all ages can join, no sign-up is required, and supplies are provided on-site. These events focus on picking up litter, cleaning up public spaces, and improving neighborhood appearance. Watch for announcements from the county on future dates, typically via their Facebook page and event calendar.​
Spartanburg Area Conservancy (SPACE): Self-Guided Clean-Ups
SPACE, in partnership with Keep One Spartanburg Beautiful, offers self-guided clean-up opportunities year-round. Individuals or groups can borrow litter pickers, gloves, and trash bags from SPACE for free; simply contact the organization to reserve supplies. Volunteers are encouraged to share their progress on social media, and can choose any trail or open space in the county for their clean-up.​
National Clean-Up Day & Parks Initiatives
Spartanburg Parks join the annual National Clean-Up Day in September, organizing events that encourage all residents to help improve local parks, trails, and playgrounds. Parks staff announce dates on their web calendar and provide support and materials for volunteers.​
