Hilton Head Island offers several active and well-organized volunteer opportunities throughout 2025 for residents and visitors looking to help keep the beaches, waterways, and natural spaces clean. Here’s how to sign up and participate in upcoming clean-up efforts.
Island-Wide Earth Day Litter Sweep
Organized annually by The Outside Foundation in partnership with the Town of Hilton Head Island, this event covers all 12 miles of beach and adjacent nature areas.​
Date:Â April 22, 2025 (Earth Day)
How to Volunteer: Register individually or as a team at outsidefoundation.org.
Details:Â Volunteers receive free cleanup supplies, safety gear, and designated cleanup locations. Groups can also organize their own zones across beaches and parks.
Keep the Broad Creek Clean Festival
Run by The Outside Foundation and local eco-partners, this family-friendly event combines education with action.​
Date:Â July 17, 2025, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
Venue:Â Shelter Cove Community Park, 39 Shelter Cove Lane.
Activities:Â Litter sweep along Broad Creek from 5:00 to 6:00 p.m., followed by local environmental exhibits, live music, and games.
Registration:Â Free, no prior sign-up needed. Gloves and trash bags are provided at check-in.
Sea Pines Beach Sweep
Part of South Carolina’s largest one-day cleanup, this event at The Sea Pines Beach Club helps protect Hilton Head’s coastal ecosystem.​
Next Event:Â September 15, 2025, at 2:00 p.m.
Check-in Location:Â Near the boardwalk behind the Beach Club.
Note:Â Non-residents pay a $9 gate fee at the Sea Pines entrance.

Earth Day Event by Island Recreation Association
A fun and eco-conscious afternoon for families to participate in small-scale cleanups and nature appreciation.​
Date:Â April 22, 2025, from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.
Location:Â Sailing & Rowing Center, Hilton Head Island.
Details:Â Includes mini-cleanups, kayaking, crafts, and wildlife activities.
Registration: Free; sign up in advance on islandreccenter.org.

Bring a reusable water bottle and gloves if you prefer your own.
