Carolina Forest is improving public safety through several key initiatives following recent events. One of the major projects is the widening and upgrade of Carolina Forest Boulevard, a crucial corridor. This $54.7 million project, funded by the RIDE 3 program, includes expanding the road to four lanes with turning lanes and traffic signals at busy intersections, which will reduce congestion and enhance driver and pedestrian safety. Additionally, a multi-use path is being added to support safer pedestrian and bicycle traffic, encouraging active transportation and reducing vehicular conflicts. This project has progressed significantly, aiming to improve connectivity and smooth traffic flow in the area.
In terms of community policing and engagement, Horry County Police Department (HCPD) has been actively increasing their presence in Carolina Forest. They have held community engagement events and enhanced traffic enforcement efforts targeting common safety concerns such as speeding and distracted driving, which are critical to lowering accident rates and improving overall public safety.
Moreover, statewide efforts in South Carolina, which include increased funding for specialized traffic enforcement units and pedestrian safety education, are expected to positively impact Carolina Forest as part of the broader regional safety strategy. These include DUI enforcement, young driver education, and pedestrian safety countermeasures, coordinated through grants and programs from the South Carolina Department of Public Safety and Highway Safety Office.
Lastly, local Parks and Recreation upgrades, such as the removal and replacement of worn playground equipment at Palmetto Adventure Land Playground in Carolina Forest, contribute to safer recreational spaces for families and children, supporting public safety in community spaces.
Carolina Forest enhances public safety through infrastructure improvements like road widening and pedestrian paths, increased law enforcement and community outreach, statewide traffic safety programs, and safer recreational facilities, all aimed at creating a safer environment for residents and visitors.
