Bluffton Public Transport Changes Effective Next Week

Bluffton will implement important public transport changes effective Monday, October 13, 2025. The most significant update is an expansion of KRTplus, the area’s on-demand ride service, which will replace certain fixed-route bus services to improve efficiency and rider access.

Key Public Transport Changes

Service Zone Expansion: KRTplus will add new service zones and expand coverage, providing more flexible, on-demand rides across Bluffton starting October 13, 2025.

Route Transitions: Several low-ridership fixed bus routes will transition to KRTplus on-demand service, especially impacting routes like Route 13 Beech Avenue and Route 15 South Hills. Riders on these routes will now need to book rides via the KRTplus system instead of waiting for traditional buses.

Free Transfers: KRT introduces an account-based ticketing system. Riders transferring from KRTplus to a fixed-route bus within one hour can ride for free if payment is made through the Transit app or a KRT Blue Card.

Booking Rides: To use KRTplus, riders can book trips in real time through the KRTplus or Transit mobile apps, available for Apple and Android, or by phone.

These updates are designed to reduce operating costs and serve riders more efficiently by focusing resources on high-demand transit corridors and providing direct, flexible transportation in less-populated areas.
