Beginning Monday, October 27, 2025, several public transportation changes will take effect across Aiken County and the City of Aiken, according to updates from the Aiken County Planning and Public Transit Division and the Augusta Regional Transportation Study (ARTS). These adjustments are part of a wider mobility enhancement effort under the Aiken County Comprehensive Plan 2024–2034 and the Future Mobility 2050 Update.
Key Changes Effective Next Week
Expanded Dial-A-Ride and Route Realignment
The Aiken County Transit Dial-A-Ride system will expand service coverage to include the Graniteville and Warrenville corridors starting next week. This expansion introduces two new pickup zones:
Zone 4 (Graniteville–Warrenville)
Zone 5 (North Aiken Industrial Area)
These will operate from 6:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.
Residents can schedule rides up to 24 hours in advance by calling (803) 648‑6499 or using the county’s new online booking tool on aikencountysc.gov/publictransit.
Route 2 Extension – Pine Log Road Corridor
Route 2 will now extend an additional 1.7 miles along Pine Log Road, terminating at Aiken Senior Life Services (1310 E. Pine Log Rd). This change enhances service to senior and assisted-living facilities, shopping centers, and the University Parkway area.
New stop additions include:
Charles Street (Downtown Transfer Hub)
Aiken Mall Redevelopment Site
E. Pine Log & Whiskey Road Intersection
Connection to North Augusta via ARTS Service
Through coordination with the Augusta Regional Transportation Study (ARTS) metropolitan plan , Aiken riders will now have one daily link to North Augusta, available at 8:45 a.m. and 3:30 p.m., departing from Aiken Transit Hub, 109 Laurens Street NW.
This pilot program supports regional employment and education connectivity between Aiken and the broader Augusta metro area.
Upcoming Safety & Infrastructure Upgrade
As part of these updates, the South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT) is beginning a signal improvement project on key Aiken intersections, including:
US 78 and Hayne Avenue
SC 302 (Silver Bluff Road) and Dougherty Road
S‑33 and Ergle Street
Installation work begins later this fall and continues through February 2026.
