The Social Security Administration (SSA) will send out July 2025 Supplemental Security Income (SSI) payments on Tuesday, July 1. This follows the regular schedule, since the 1st falls on a weekday. Unlike June 2025, when the payment was sent early due to the 1st falling on a Sunday, there will be no advance payment in July.
July SSI Payment Date Confirmed
For July 2025, SSI recipients will receive their funds on Tuesday, July 1. Payments will be available through your selected method—either direct deposit into your bank account or loaded onto your Direct Express card.
Current SSI Payment Amounts for 2025
The federal maximum SSI payment amounts in 2025 are:
- $967 per month for individual beneficiaries
- $1,450 per month for eligible couples (split equally)
- $484 per month for an “essential person” – someone who lives with and provides regular care to the beneficiary
These amounts include the 2.5% Cost-of-Living Adjustment (COLA) applied in January 2025. Early predictions suggest a similar increase for 2026, estimated to be between 2.4% and 2.5%.
Who Is Eligible to Receive SSI?
To qualify for SSI, you must meet at least one of the following conditions:
Be 65 years or older
Be legally blind
Have a disability that prevents “substantial gainful work,” as defined by SSA rules
Your income and resources must also stay below specific limits:
Individuals: Income must not exceed $967/month, resources cannot exceed $2,000
Couples: Joint income limit is $1,450/month, resources cannot exceed $3,000
SSA looks at savings, stocks, bonds, and vehicles (other than your main home and primary car) when counting assets. If your countable income exceeds limits, your SSI amount may be reduced. For every $2 of income above the first $85, $1 is deducted from your monthly benefit.
Residency Rules Also Matter
You must live in the U.S., District of Columbia, or Northern Mariana Islands and have the right immigration or citizenship status. If you leave the U.S. for more than 30 straight days, your SSI benefits will be automatically stopped.
Important: Paper Checks Will End by October 2025
Starting October 2025, the SSA will stop mailing paper checks. This means all SSI beneficiaries must switch to electronic payment methods—either direct deposit or the Direct Express prepaid card. This change was ordered by presidential order in March 2025 and will help the government save about $657 million a year.
Nearly 500,000 people, mostly older adults without bank accounts or living in rural areas, are still receiving paper checks. These people must act before the end of September to avoid interruptions in their payments.
How to Stay Safe from Payment Suspension
To avoid delays or missed payments:
Open a bank account if you don’t have one
Or, apply for a Direct Express prepaid card
Contact your local SSA office immediately to switch your payment method
Limited exceptions may be made, but no official details have been shared yet. So, it’s best to act now and make sure you will continue receiving your payments without trouble.
If you receive SSI, don’t ignore this important update. Starting from October 2025, the SSA will no longer send paper checks. Failing to switch to electronic payments could mean your SSI money is delayed or even stopped. With payment amounts up to $967 per month for individuals, this support is crucial for many. Take steps now to secure your benefits by switching to direct deposit or a Direct Express card.
