Every month, millions of Americans depend on Social Security payments for their daily needs. These payments support retired people, individuals with disabilities, and survivors of deceased workers. For April 2025, the Social Security Administration (SSA) has started releasing this month’s payments, and some people may receive as much as $5,108.
This week’s payment is meant for people born between the 11th and 20th of any month. If that’s you, then your money should arrive this week. Let’s go over the payment schedule, who qualifies for how much, and some important updates about SSA phone procedures that start this month.
Who Gets Paid and When?
The SSA follows a fixed schedule for distributing monthly payments. Here’s how it works:
Supplemental Security Income (SSI):
People who receive SSI usually get their money on the 1st of every month.
Retirement and Disability Benefits: The rest of the payments are divided into three Wednesdays based on your birth date:
- Born between 1st–10th: Paid on the first Wednesday
- Born between 11th–20th: Paid on the second Wednesday
- Born between 21st–31st: Paid on the third Wednesday
So, for this week in April, it’s the turn of people born between the 11th and 20th. If you were born in the last third of any month, your payment will come on April 23rd.
How Much Can You Get?
The payment amount depends on your situation and when you started receiving benefits:
Retirement Benefits:
- Retire at age 62: You may receive up to $2,831 per month
- Retire at full retirement age (67): You may receive up to $4,018
- Delay retirement until age 70: You can receive the highest amount — $5,108 per month
SSI Benefits in 2025:
- Up to $967 per person
- Up to $1,450 per couple
The actual amount may vary depending on your income, other benefits, and your living situation.
What to Do If You Don’t Get Your Payment?
If your expected payment doesn’t show up, the SSA advises you to wait three business days before contacting them. Remember, weekends and holidays don’t count. Usually, payments arrive on time or even a little early because the SSA knows many families rely on this money.
New Rules for Phone Services from April 14
There’s also a major update about how you can handle SSA procedures. After facing public criticism for stopping phone services, the SSA has changed course.
Starting April 14, 2025, you can once again complete your procedures over the phone. But now, there will be extra identity checks to improve security and reduce fraud. Interim Commissioner Leland Dudek explained that this change aims to balance accessibility and safety for all users.
Social Security payments continue to be a financial lifeline for millions across the U.S., especially the elderly and disabled. This week’s payment, which can go up to $5,108, is being sent to those born between the 11th and 20th of any month. If you’re one of them, check your bank account soon. If there’s any delay, give it three working days before contacting the SSA. Also, remember that you can now call SSA again for help — just be ready for a quick identity check to keep your details safe.
