However, not all Social Security beneficiaries receive their checks on the designated Wednesday. Some exceptions apply to individuals receiving survivor benefits or those who started receiving their retirement, SSDI, or survivor payments before May 1997, who receive their checks on the third Wednesday of each month.

Maximum retirement benefit: $5,108 per month.
SSDI benefits: $1,582.08 per month.

Special Cases for Payment Schedules
Individuals receiving survivor benefits or claiming the retirement of a deceased spouse: These payments are based on the deceased person’s date of birth, not the recipient’s.
Beneficiaries who began receiving payments before May 1997: They receive their checks on the third Wednesday of each month, which for July 2025 was Thursday, July 3.
SSI recipients: These individuals receive their payments on the 1st of each month.
Dual recipients (SSI + Social Security): Those receiving both SSI and Social Security benefits get their SSI on the 1st and Social Security on the 3rd of each month.
