Authorities say three people escaped a Saturday afternoon house fire in Irmo with minor injuries, but the home was severely damaged.
The Irmo Fire District said units were dispatched to the 100 block of Laurel Branch Way around 4:30 p.m. and discovered a heavy fire throughout the house and attic when they arrived.
Irmo Fire said they were able to control the fire with assistance from the Lexington County Fire Service and the Columbia-Richland Fire Department. However, the home suffered significant damage, and several sections of the roof collapsed before the fire was completely extinguished.
The cause of the fire is still being investigated.
