Thousands of children in the Lowcountry benefit from the Toys for Tots Blitz Donation Drive.

The Toys for Tots Blitz Donation drive in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, collected thousands of toys on Monday to support children in the Lowcountry area ahead of Christmas. This annual event, led by WCBD News 2 and involving U.S. Marines since 1947, ensures local kids receive gifts despite family hardships.

Program History

The U.S. Marines have run Toys for Tots nationally since 1947, distributing over 708 million toys to 314 million children to date. Locally, WCBD’s Chief Meteorologist Rob Fowler has coordinated efforts since 1987, amassing millions of toys in the Charleston area, with the Blitz alone gathering about 5,000 toys yearly over the past three years.

2025 Impact

The Lowcountry campaign exceeded expectations, reaching over 50,000 toys donated by late December 2025, all distributed within the immediate Charleston region. Organizers aim to assist 7,000 to 10,000 children this holiday season. Community members like donor Nicole Patrick highlighted the event’s role in embodying Christmas giving.

Coordinator Insights

Sgt. Creasy Brandon, Toys for Tots Charleston Coordinator, emphasized the mission: deliver a toy to every needy child while improving efficiency and reach. Toys stay local to address ongoing needs in the area. Additional events, like a holiday bike drive through December 12, supplemented toy collections.
