Charleston, South Carolina — In light of the continuing government shutdown, the South Carolina Aquarium has announced that it will provide free entry to federal employees and their guests for one week, beginning Thursday.

According to the South Carolina Aquarium, federal employees and up to three visitors will be able to visit the aquarium for free between November 6 and November 12.

The deal is only accessible in-person, and employees must present their federal ID at the admission gate.

On Wednesday, the shutdown entered its 37th day, making it the longest on record, with many government workers going without pay and crucial aid programs such as SNAP being put on hold or curtailed.

The South Carolina Aquarium is just one of the area businesses that have been offering discounts to government workers affected by the shutdown.

On James Island, the Terrace Theater has been providing free tiny popcorn to furloughed government workers who come in to watch a movie.

During the outage, El Jefe Texican Cantina has offering free admissions, while Doody Calls, a pet waste disposal service, is providing two months of free yard cleaning to affected customers.
