The Moja Arts Festival hosts a block party in downtown

Charleston, South Carolina – This year’s Moja Arts Festival celebrations are already underway, with a block party scheduled for Wednesday.

It celebrates African-American and Caribbean arts and culture in the Lowcountry while also reflecting on Charleston’s rich history.

This is a popular event that has drawn hundreds of people for over 40 years.

Tommy Brown Jr. headlined Wednesday’s main event, paying tribute to African-American icons who died in 2025.

The festival’s artistic director, Charlton Singleton, says the event is special to him.

“I love those events because they’re free to the public,” Singleton said. “They have a lot of people; it’s one big community, and Moja means one. There are so many things that tie together, and I enjoy those events. The longevity, the richness of the culture, and the Lowcountry’s support.”

This event runs until October 5.
