The Isle of Palms Connector will close briefly on Saturday for the annual marathon

ISLE OF PALMS, South Carolina – Residents and visitors to Charleston can take part in a 5K or 10K race this weekend to help stop child abuse in the Lowcountry.

The race will take place on the Isle of Palms Connector Bridge, which offers spectacular views of the Intracoastal Waterway, nearby creeks, and wetlands. However, the bridge’s shutdown may have an impact on people seeking to reach the island.

The Isle of Palms Police Department has provided the following list of road closures and times:

At 6:30 a.m., JC Long Boulevard between Palm Boulevard and Ocean Boulevard will be closed.
Palm Boulevard (SC-703) will be closed between 10th and 14th avenues beginning at 7 a.m.
At 7 a.m., the Isle of Palms Connector (SC-517) from Palm Boulevard (SC-703) to Rifle Range Road will be blocked to all vehicles.
All roads are expected to be open to motorists about 11 a.m.
According to the agency, officials would be stationed at all traffic control locations to direct vehicles and pedestrians.

According to the Isle of Palms Police, any car who needs to travel on or off the island must use Sullivan’s Island, with the detour taking them through Ocean Boulevard between 14th and 10th Avenues.

The organization will provide updates on road closures and openings via the Isle of Palms Police Department’s social media outlets. They encourage drivers to allow extra time for their commutes to account for the detours.

Participants will start the run at 8 a.m. in Isle of Palms, go to Mount Pleasant, and then return to Isle of Palms.

All proceeds from the Isle of Palms Connector Run will benefit local groups dedicated to the prevention of child abuse and the rehabilitation of those touched by it.

According to ioprun.com, the run has raised more than $1,240,000 for local charity over the last three decades.
