Johns Island, S.C. – The entrance road to the historic Angel Oak Preserve has officially been named “Protected Path” after a public naming campaign. The Lowcountry Land Trust invited local residents earlier this summer to help choose a name for the road that leads visitors to the iconic Angel Oak tree.

The Name’s Significance

The newly named Protected Path offers a safer connection between Bohicket Road and Angel Oak Road, enhancing access to the preserve. Officials explained that the name reflects both the historical significance of the site and the ongoing effort to preserve the land for future generations. It symbolizes the life paths that have unfolded at the site and the commitment to protecting it moving forward.

Community Involvement

The public’s involvement in naming the entrance road highlights the community’s connection to the Angel Oak Preserve and the importance of preserving the natural beauty and historical value of the area. The name was selected from several suggestions and is now officially in place, guiding visitors to one of the Lowcountry’s most treasured landmarks.
