A Saturday afternoon fire in Florence County quickly grew out of control, spreading across nearly seven acres and threatening nearby structures, according to officials.
Fire Breaks Out in Mars Bluff Area
Crews with the Florence County Fire Rescue responded shortly before 2:30 p.m. to the 1600 block of Fore Road in the Mars Bluff area after receiving reports of a field fire.
Upon arrival, firefighters found an active blaze already spreading across the area.
Controlled Burn Suspected Cause
Officials said the fire is believed to have started as a controlled burn that became “unmanageable,” allowing flames to spread beyond the intended area.
Efforts to Contain the Fire
The South Carolina Forestry Commission is assisting local crews with containment efforts.
Authorities said the fire threatened nearby structures, though it is not yet clear if any buildings were damaged.
