St. James-Santee Elementary Middle gets the Cool School honor

Significant academic gains and providing children with a high-class education through innovative activities and opportunities are just a few of the reasons why St. James-Santee Elementary Middle School in McClellanville has won our inaugural News 2 Cool School award for the 2025-2026 school year.

St. James-Santee Elementary Middle School in Charleston County has shown remarkable academic growth. This year, SJS expanded STEM exposure by offering interesting forensics classes through Project Lead the Way, in which students become forensic detectives and medical researchers, solving real-world problems.

SJS Elementary students also have access to the ABii computer lab, which has robots constructed by the school’s former eighth graders and designed to fit the requirements of each student individually. Students can obtain high school credits at SJS in addition to taking AVID, a college and career preparedness class.

Students are also involved in the fine arts. St. James Santee also offers an award-winning Eco class through the Eco Schools program, which was the first in the state to get Green Flag accreditation. They also run a bicycling program.
