South Carolina shifts to OPCON 1 ahead of the winter storm.

South Carolina activated its highest emergency readiness level, OPCON 1, at the State Emergency Operations Center on Saturday morning due to widespread winter weather threats.

Preparedness Measures

Gov. Henry McMaster urged residents to check on neighbors and family, while Emergency Management Director Kim Stenson stressed final preparations amid forecasts of ice, sleet, and power outage risks through Sunday night.

Active Resources

Over 180 aid requests processed, including 13 general population shelters (local decisions) and 10 medical shelters via DPH’s 24-hour Triage Line at 1-833-351-9990. SCDOT mobilized 3,000 personnel on 24-hour ops, National Guard deployed 350 members, and Public Safety activated round-the-clock coverage.
