More than 400 cyclists are participating in the Ride to End ALZ, a three-day, 257-mile event across South Carolina to raise funds for Alzheimer’s research, care, and support. The ride, which started Thursday in Simpsonville, will conclude Sunday in Mount Pleasant.
Raising Funds for Alzheimer’s Care and Research
The event is presented by the David Moore Foundation, and its goal is to raise $1.5 million to support the Alzheimer’s Association’s mission. As of now, the ride has already raised over $1.1 million. The funds will aid in the organization’s efforts to fund research and provide care for the more than 7 million Americans, including over 112,000 South Carolinians, living with Alzheimer’s disease or other forms of dementia.
The Route and Stops
The riders began their journey in Simpsonville and made stops in Newberry on Friday. Saturday’s leg of the ride covered 94 miles, with additional stops in Leesville and North, before reaching Orangeburg. The final 101-mile stretch from Orangeburg to Mount Pleasant will take place on Sunday.
Supporting Caregivers and Those Affected by Alzheimer’s
Along with raising funds for research, the Alzheimer’s Association’s South Carolina Chapter provides free resources and support across the state. These include a 24/7 helpline, educational programs, and caregiver services to support those living with dementia and their families.
