Semi-truck fire jams interstate lanes, causing backlog from North Charleston

A semi-truck fire on I-26 eastbound near exit 205 (University Boulevard off-ramp) in North Charleston, S.C., caused two lanes to close and backed up traffic nearly 4 miles on Monday morning, December 1, 2025. Fire crews arrived around 8 a.m. to extinguish the blaze, with the roadway reopening later, though a small scene lingered until about 10:30 a.m. No injuries or cause were reported at the time.

As of December 2, all lanes are clear and traffic is flowing normally in that area, per updates from SCDOT and local reports. Current I-26 eastbound conditions show separate lane closures for roadwork between mile markers 209-212 through December 5, but nothing at exit 205.

For live updates, check 511SC.org or SCDOT’s road conditions map.
