Two popular Charleston eateries, Lewis Barbecue and Rancho Lewis, are stepping up to help those impacted by recent floods in Texas and New Mexico. On Wednesday, the restaurants will donate a portion of their sales to assist in the ongoing recovery efforts.
Lewis Barbecue to Donate 100% of Brisket Sandwich Sales
Lewis Barbecue is dedicating 100% of the sales from their brisket sandwiches on Wednesday to flood victims in Texas. The funds will go directly to Mercy Chefs, a nonprofit organization that provides disaster relief, including meals, to families affected by the floods. Mercy Chefs currently has teams working on the ground in Texas to feed displaced families. This initiative includes sales from both the main Charleston location and the restaurant’s Greenville branch.
Rancho Lewis Supporting New Mexico Communities
In addition, Rancho Lewis, created by Pit Master John Lewis, will contribute 5% of its total sales on Wednesday to the Community Foundation of Lincoln County. This nonprofit organization is supporting victims of flash floods in Ruidoso, New Mexico, and surrounding areas. The heavy rains have caused significant damage, and the foundation is providing much-needed aid to affected communities.
John Lewis’s Personal Connection to Texas and New Mexico
Pitmaster John Lewis, who grew up in El Paso, Texas, and spent many years in southern New Mexico, has a strong personal connection to these regions. He believes in giving back to the areas that helped shape his career in barbecue. “Beloved to me, Texas and New Mexico are places I learned to cook with my family, and where I found my voice through barbecue and border cuisine,” Lewis shared. “We invite our customers to join us on Wednesday at Lewis Barbecue and/or Rancho Lewis so, together, we can do a little something to help people who need the support.”
A Day of Giving Back
On Wednesday, locals are encouraged to visit either Lewis Barbecue or Rancho Lewis to enjoy delicious meals while supporting communities in need. The restaurants are using their platform to not only serve great food but also to make a meaningful impact on disaster relief efforts in Texas and New Mexico.
