Nash Nexton Holdings LLC petitioned to annex approximately 738 acres in Berkeley County’s New Hope community, known as Creekside, into the Town of Summerville. The land, near Sheep Island Road and Wild Game Road, would support single-family residential, commercial, and civic/recreation uses under a planned unit development (PUD). This includes a proposed development agreement, with amendments to the existing Nexton PUD to remove certain county requirements.
Resident Concerns
New Hope residents, including Marlene Coleman and Kristine Schaffer, expressed frustration over limited notification, learning of the proposal mainly through neighbor-distributed flyers rather than official town notices. Many worry about higher Summerville taxes pricing out older residents, fixed-income households, and multi-generational families. They prefer remaining under Berkeley County jurisdiction to avoid these impacts.
Town Process and Status
Summerville’s Planning Commission held a public hearing on November 17, 2025, and recommended denying the annexation and zoning request. The item returned to committees, with public comments from New Hope residents along Wildgame and Sheep Island Roads focusing on opposition; full council discussions continued into December 2025 agendas. No final decision appears resolved as of the latest records.
“Nash Nexton Holdings LLC has petitioned the Town of Summerville to annex 738 acres known as Creekside. Summerville Town Council will have its first opportunity to consider and discuss the annexation petition at its meeting on December 11th. No final decision regarding the proposed annexation can be made during this meeting. The Council looks forward to discussing this economic development opportunity and the potential benefits it could bring to Summerville and its residents.”
Residents will be able to speak during Thursday’s Town Council meeting. Town leaders say the proposal’s final vote is scheduled for January 15.
