Charleston Animal Society’s “Home for the Holidays” program successfully placed 246 pets into new homes on Christmas morning 2025, partnering with Hendrick Automotive Group for deliveries. This 13-year tradition surprises families with adopted animals, fostering lasting bonds while addressing shelter overcrowding.

Program Details

Volunteers and Hendrick staff delivered kittens like Rudy to children such as 4-year-old Riley Hart, turning holiday wishes into reality. The initiative emphasizes responsible adoptions, with counseling on needs like heartworm preventatives, crates, and beds to ensure successful matches.

Shelter Impact

Despite no post-holiday return surge at this shelter, capacity remains high, supporting South Carolina’s no-kill status. Free adoptions continue for dogs and cats one year and older at both campuses through December 27-29, 2025, urging community involvement via adoption, fostering, or donations.
