A pedestrian in a wheelchair died after being struck by a Honda Element on Sam Rittenberg Boulevard in Charleston, S.C.’s West Ashley area.

Crash Circumstances
Charleston Police responded around 7:45 p.m. Friday to the intersection with Gamecock Avenue, where the victim attempted to cross without a crosswalk or pedestrian signal. The impact caused the vehicle’s engine compartment to catch fire; the pedestrian was hospitalized but succumbed to injuries.

Investigation Status
