North Charleston Police make arrest in a dual car and foot chase that injured suspect

Police in North Charleston, South Carolina, say a traffic stop over illegal window tint quickly escalated into a high-speed chase Thursday evening, ending in a crash, an injury, and the arrest of a Mount Pleasant man.

Suspect Identified and Charges Filed

Authorities identified the driver as Anthony Lashawn Robinson, 37. He now faces multiple charges, including:

Second offense of driving under suspension

Malicious injury to personal property

Failure to stop for blue lights

Robinson is being held at the Al Cannon Detention Center on a $25,000 bond, along with an additional $20,000 bond tied to charges from the Charleston County Sheriff’s Office.

Traffic Stop Turns Into Chase

According to a police report, the incident began just after 7:15 p.m. Thursday, when an officer noticed a white car with illegal window tint and initiated a stop at the entrance of Greentree North Apartments.

The vehicle came to a brief halt, but as the officer approached and tapped on the rear window, the driver suddenly fled, jumping a curb and speeding toward Otranto Road.

Police say Robinson then turned onto Salamander Road at high speeds. Shortly afterward, responding officers discovered the car had crashed into a fence at the end of Otranto Road.

Foot Chase and Injury

Robinson allegedly ran from the crash site, cutting across yards and attempting to scale another fence. But when he tried to climb, a plank broke, causing him to fall and injure his knee.

At that point, police say Robinson gave up and complied with officers. He was taken into custody and then transported to a hospital for treatment before being booked into jail.

Passenger Detained but Not Charged

Officers also discovered a passenger still inside the car, sitting with his hands raised. An officer held him at gunpoint, ordered him out, and detained him. Police later confirmed the passenger cooperated fully and does not face any charges.

What started as a routine traffic stop quickly became a chaotic chase through a North Charleston neighborhood. While no bystanders were injured, police say the case highlights how small violations can spiral into serious criminal charges. Robinson will remain behind bars while awaiting his next court appearance.
