A routine patrol in North Charleston turned into a short police chase early Friday, ending with the arrest of a young driver. The incident highlights how even minor traffic violations can quickly escalate when drivers fail to comply with law enforcement.
Traffic Stop Turns Into Brief Pursuit
According to the North Charleston Police Department, an officer was patrolling the Otranto Road area just after midnight when he noticed a blue sedan with a missing headlight and high beams turned on. Due to these violations, the officer attempted to stop the vehicle.
However, the driver did not pull over and instead continued driving, leading to a brief pursuit. For safety reasons, the officer later decided to discontinue the chase.
Vehicle Located Shortly After
After ending the pursuit, police issued a be-on-the-lookout alert to nearby agencies. Around 20 minutes later, deputies from the Charleston County Sheriff’s Office spotted the vehicle near its registered address on Stall Road.
Deputies stopped the vehicle and detained the driver. Officers then confirmed that both the car and the individual matched the earlier incident.
Arrest and Charges
The driver, identified as Alcon Gonzalez-Rangel, was taken into custody. He has been charged with failure to stop for blue lights and siren, which is considered a serious offence.
