The North Charleston Police Department announced Tuesday that it has realigned department resources to increase its presence in the northern regions of the city.
According to the agency, neighborhoods including Northwood Estates, Deer Park and the Greenridge Road corridor will see heightened patrols as a deterrent to criminal activity. Officials say the move is aimed at adding visibility, strengthening security and addressing community concerns.
Response Follows Recent Shootings
The increased patrols come after several apartments and vehicles were struck by gunfire in the Lakes of Northwoods community Monday night. One person has been arrested in connection with that incident, and police say additional arrests are possible.
Earlier this year, officers also responded to reports of shots fired near the intersection of Delhi Road and Greenridge Road. One person was injured in that January shooting.
Focus on Community Partnership
In a statement, the department said officers will work closely with residents, businesses and community groups to foster collaboration and build trust.
“Despite our crime rates that continue to trend downward, we will not let our guards down and will remain vigilant in our service to our communities,” the agency said. Police encouraged residents to report suspicious activity through the department’s CRIMEWATCH app or by contacting authorities directly.
