A 28-year-old man is facing multiple charges after being arrested Monday afternoon in connection with several auto fuel storage tank break-ins. The North Charleston Police Department said officers spotted a suspect wanted for questioning around 3 p.m. on University Boulevard near Nevonna Drive.
When officers approached him, the suspect provided his information before fleeing on foot, running across heavy traffic and through nearby residential yards before eventually surrendering.
Suspect Allegedly Found With Drugs and Outstanding Warrant
Police said the suspect admitted he ran because of outstanding warrants and told officers he had drugs hidden in his socks. During a search, officers reportedly found two baggies containing a white rock-like substance that field-tested presumptively positive for cocaine.
A records check revealed an outstanding warrant from the Charleston Police Department for breaking and entering an automobile.
Multiple Charges Filed, Taken to Detention Center
The suspect was identified as Preston Edward Shoaf. He was charged with four counts of breaking into auto fuel storage tanks, wearing a mask and the like, breach of peace, crossing other than at a crosswalk, financial transaction card fraud enhancements, possession of a controlled substance and financial transaction card theft.
Shoaf was transported to the Al Cannon Detention Center.
