Mount Pleasant, South Carolina. Mount Pleasant police officers raised money for Special Olympics athletes on Friday at two Chick-fil-A locations through “Cops on the Coop.”

Officers from the Mount Pleasant Police Department staffed the eateries throughout the day, collecting donations to help local Special Olympics athletes train and travel to competitions like the 2026 Special Olympics USA Games in Minnesota.

“These policemen are excellent. “They’re out here working hard,” Sgt. Robert Blaschke stated. “A lot of these guys are on night shift, but they’re coming out here to help because they believe in the cause.”

Blaschke stated that the effort allows players of all ages to participate in a sport they enjoy while developing community bonds.

“We live in a very generous community,” he told me. “Some people pull up and see a bunch of cops and wonder what’s going on, but they’ve been great.”

Donation containers immediately filled with cash, and officers reported continuous digital contributions. Agencies from Charleston, Berkeley, and Dorchester counties also participated in the fundraiser.

“Part of community-oriented policing is knowing your community,” Blaschke remarked. “This is just one way for us to connect with people and do something good.”

If you missed it, the annual Isle of Palms Polar Plunge will be held again in February.
