Lowcountry roadways remain perilous following weekend snow and ice.

Recent snow in the Lowcountry, including Ladson, S.C., has melted into icy conditions, with black ice posing major risks on bridges and shaded areas due to sub-freezing temperatures and winds.

Driving Safety Tips

The South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT) is treating roads overnight, but refreezing remains likely. Drivers should slow down, avoid sudden braking, and steer clear of less-traveled or shaded spots like overpasses. Schools closed Monday due to these hazards.

Personal Protection

Layer clothing with hats, gloves, and scarves when outside to guard against the cold, especially for children . Over 1,300 collisions occurred statewide during the recent storm.
