Charleston, South Carolina – The holiday baking season is soon approaching, and perhaps you might get some inspiration from a local pastry chef.
Kyle Caulkins has converted his passion for pastry-making into a vocation that combines expertise, artistry, and a touch of social media.
When he’s not creating beautiful pastries at The Sanctuary, an oceanfront hotel in the center of Kiawah Island, you can find him teaching a hands-on baking class at The Chef’s Collective in Charleston.
Caulkins noted that the sessions start with early production, such as creating scones and madeleine batter from scratch, learning how to assemble, cut, and serve tea sandwiches, and doing all of the legwork involved in producing your next delight.
After the tea is brewed, the music is played, and the towers are built, you’ll walk through each thing one by one, tasting and learning how it was prepared.
If you’re interested in attending a class, visit the Chef’s Collective or Caulkins’ websites.
Next, he’ll compete in a holiday baking competition called ‘Holiday Bakeshop,’ which will air this holiday season on Canada’s Flavour Network.
The reality competition pits eight contestants against each other in a holiday baking battle.
“This is a brand-new show, like to be able to be on the first season of this completely new network, completely new show, to me, was a huge, exciting opportunity,” he went on.
“I really just wanted to go on to show people my age, just like younger people, that if you really put your mind to something and you really throw yourself out there, you can accomplish anything.”
An air date has not yet been confirmed, but follow Caulkins on social media to find out when the show airs.
