The North Charleston Police Department has introduced a new member to their team – K-9 Koda, a German Shorthaired Pointer who will play a significant role in various police operations.
K-9 Koda’s Role and Certification
K-9 Koda is a single-purpose tracking dog, certified through the International Police Working Dog Association (IPWDA). His primary responsibility will be to assist in locating missing vulnerable adults, missing children, and non-violent offenders. His keen sense of smell and training will make him an invaluable asset in these critical situations, helping to track individuals and gather valuable information during investigations.
Community Engagement and Public Relations
In addition to his tracking duties, Koda will also serve as a friendly and approachable figure at community events. His presence will help foster stronger relationships between law enforcement officers and the public, offering a positive interaction that builds trust within the community.
Support from the Charleston County Sheriff’s Office
The North Charleston Police Department was able to welcome K-9 Koda at no cost, thanks to the generous support from the Charleston County Sheriff’s Office and the department’s executive staff. Their continued backing helps ensure that the department has the resources needed to serve and protect the community effectively.
