Charleston, South Carolina – The City of Charleston is opening a West Ashley warming facility as cold weather are forecast to hit the area Monday evening and Tuesday.
The center will open in the Salvation Army Center, which is located at 2135 Ashley River Road in Charleston. The doors open at 8 p.m., and guests are welcome until 7 a.m. Monday.
The center will shelter up to 50 individuals and provide food, water, and cots.
CARTA buses will run to the center from the peninsula at 63 Mary Street until 8 p.m.
The National Weather Service in Charleston issued a “freeze warning” from 9 p.m. Monday to 9 a.m. Tuesday, ahead of a surge of cold weather that began to move into the region overnight.
Forecasters predict temperatures in the mid to high 20s inland, with low-to-mid 30s closer to the coast Monday night and early Tuesday morning. We might struggle to reach 50 degrees on Tuesday afternoon.
