Goose Creek could flip zoning to allow a new auto shop

Goose Creek, South Carolina. The city of Goose Creek is attempting to allow a new German car shop to be constructed. But first, they’ll need to overturn some zoning changes made roughly a year ago.

City officials are reviewing a plan to rezone a more than five-acre lot near Etiwan Drive and North Goose Creek Boulevard from ‘village node,’ which was altered about a year ago, to general commercial. The General Commercial district’s objective is to provide land for a variety of nonresidential purposes such as retail, office, and service enterprises.

Goose Creek Mayor Greg Habib stated that this project was already in the works when zoning changed, and it made sense to be positioned behind a former Fender Mender, now Classic Collision.

According to Habib, around 110,000 motorists pass through the City of Goose Creek on Highway 52 and 176 each day, and the presence of an Ottohaus may boost economic development. Ottohaus is a successful Lowcountry company with numerous Berkeley County customers.

“This company and these investors are making a significant investment in this community, establishing a new business to serve our inhabitants, and those who live nearby are seeing economic prosperity. That is very significant, and it addresses the requirements of certain of our citizens,” Habib stated.

For those concerned about traffic, Mayor Habib stated that this will have far less of an impact than if it had been zoned as a ‘Village Node,’ which would have allowed for a fast food restaurant instead. Habib stated that Ottohaus will have a negligible impact on traffic utilization.
